I know that when you all have read the head title ,do you all think that what does the word “anthropophaginian”?Might be you have read this word for the first time also. One more thing which comes into your mind that , why does I have ” Human Eaters ” In front of it? So, first let’s know what is Anthropophaginian?

Human Cannibalism

Cannibalism, also called Anthropophagy, eating of human flesh by human. The one who perform the cannibalism are known as “cannibals” Or “anthropophaginian”.

Cannibal Derived from Spanish word,”Caribales “Or “canibles”

The term is derived from the Spanish name, “Caribales or Canibales”for the, ” Carib”, a West Indies tribe, well known for its practices of Cannibalism. As you know about what is Anthropophaginian? , so let’s know some unbelievable facts about Anthropophaginian

1.Is Cannibal the only word?

According to Merriam Webster dictionary,the first known use of the word cannibal was in 1553.

There are lots of different words which are used for Cannibals and Cannibalism. Here are some examples:-

For Cannibals:-Anthropophaginian ,Aborigine,Head Hunter, Flesh eater and many more.

2.When was Cannibalism started?

Homo antecessor had started the Cannibalism for the first time.

Anthropological data shows that millions of years ago,Homo antecessor, (the link between Neanderthals and Homo Sapiens) were cannibalistic for nutrional reasons.

Archaeologists have suggested that Stone Age people sometimes ate one another for nutritional reasons. But a new study suggests that from a calorie perspective, hunting and eating other humans wasn’t efficient.

THE OLDEST EVIDENCE

Europe boasts the oldest fossil evidence of Cannibalism. In 1999,a science article named as French Paleontologists reported that 100,000 year old bones from six Neanderthals victims,which had been found in a French cave called Moula-Guercy.

The victims bodies had been broken by other Neanderthals in such a way as to extract marrow and brains.

3.Are the activities of Cannibalism are sub divided?

Basically,Cannibalism has also subdivided or given different names , on the basis of activity done by the Cannibals.

1.Endocannibalism:-Consumption of a person from within the same community is called endocannibalism.

The best example of endocannibalism is of Fore tribe of Papau New Guinea.

Deceased people were eaten by the Fore tribe of Papua Guinea.

The people of Fore tribe of Papua New Guinea had been eating deceased family members by cooking traditionally and they had been thought that it would be a help to free the spirit of the dead. This activity was also known as Funnerary Cannibalism.

2.Exocannibalism:-The consumption of a person from outside the community, usually as a celebration of victory against a rival tribe, is known as exocannibalism.

Exocannibalism had been as a celebration of victory over enemy.

The act of Cannibalism in Fiji would be the great example of it.

Cannibalism has a long history in the Fiji Islands, which were previously known as the,” The Cannibal Isles”. It was believed that Fijian Chiefs ate the flesh of their enemies as a means of power, control and for revenge. One of the most famous believe was that if you consumed your enemy, you would inherit their knowledge.

Fiji,was also known as The Cannibal Isles.

The entire process was steeped in ritual,from the abuse of the bodies,the chanting and drumming and the use of special pronged forks to eat the flesh rather than hand.

Special Pronged fork had been used for to eat human flesh.

THE last known act of Cannibalism occured in 1867 in Fiji. Methodist missionary, Reverend Thomas Baker, along with their six other Fijan students teachers were murdered and eaten in Central Viti Levu.

3.Necro-Cannibalism:- Eating the corpse of someone who is dead.

The survivors of the sinking of the French ship Meduse in 1816 resorted to cannibalism after four days adrift on a raft, and their plight was made famous by Théodore Géricault’s painting Raft of the Medusa.

Illfated tragedy of Donner Party.

On land, the Donner Party found itself stranded by snow in the Donner Pass, a high mountain pass in California, without adequate supplies during the Mexican–American War, leading to several instances of cannibalism.

Essex Ship

After a whale sank the Essex of Nantucket on 20 November 1820 (an important source event for Herman Melville‘s Moby-Dick), the survivors, in three small boats, resorted, by common consent, to cannibalism in order for some to survive.

Boone Helm

One notorious cannibal was mountain man Boone Helm, who was known as “The Kentucky Cannibal” for eating several of his fellow travelers, from 1850 until his eventual hanging in 1864.

There are so many incidents or activities had been done which I can’t able to write it all.

4.Homicidal Cannibalism:-After abusing , torturing and then killing a person for the intention of eating.

For this type, there has been some famous serial killer s who killed people and after that they also consumed their body.

2.Jeffrey Dahmer

Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer, also known as the Milwaukee Cannibal or the Milwaukee Monster, was an American serial killer and sex offender who committed the murder and dismemberment of 17 men and boys from 1978 to 1991

3.Artist Rick Gibson

Rick Gibson is a Canadian sculptor and artist best known for his performance works.

5.Medicinal Cannibalism:-Blood ground bones and other body parts were routinely used to make medicines during 16 th to 18 th century.

Body parts were used for making medicines.

3.Is there any diseases which is related to Cannibalism?

Kuru is a very rare, incurable disease.

Kuru is a very rare,incurable diseases and fatal neurodegenerative disorder that was formerly common among the Fore People of Papua New Guinea. It is also known as ” Laughing Sickness”,due to the butsts of laughter which are a symptom of the disease.

Kuru was transmitted among members of the Fore tribe of Papua New Guinea

It is now widely accepted that Kuru was transmitted among members of the Fore tribe of Papau New Guinea via Funnerary Cannibalism.In 1951,Arthur Carey was the first to use the term “Kuru”, in a report to describe a new disease afflicting the Fore tribe of Papua New Guinea.

4.Who has considered to be the most prolific cannibal?

Most Prolific Cannibal, Udre Udre

The most prolific Cannibal had been from Fiji, Udre, Udre, a chief who lived near RakiRaki in Northern Viti Levu.

He holds the macabre Guiness World Record of Most Prolific Cannibal, believed to have eaten between 872 -999 people in his lifetime He kept a stone for every person he consumed, and there are over 800 stones still decorating his gravesite today.

5.How does the taste of human flesh?

Human flesh falls into the category of red meat and, by most accounts, has the consistency of beef.

How does the human flesh taste like?

Armin Meiwes, who ate nearly 40 pounds of meat from a man who actually agreed to be his meal, said in an interview from prison that human flesh tastes rather like good pork only a bit tougher and a bit more bitter.

6.Is there any law against cannibalism?

Cannibalism is the consumption of another human’s body matter, whether consensual or not. In the United States, there are no laws against cannibalism per se, but most, if not all, states have enacted laws that indirectly make it impossible to legally obtain and consume the body matter.

But still there are few punishments for Cannibalism:-

1.It shall be an affirmative defense to a violation of the provisions of this section that the action was taken under extreme life-threatening conditions as the only apparent means of survival. 2.Cannibalism is punishable by imprisonment in the state prison not exceeding fourteen (14) years.

In the end,I want to put my opinion about Cannibalism.Cannibalism is one of the most cruelest human act which I can say now. Someone had done it for their curiosity, someone had done for satisfy their unique hungriness of flesh, while some had done it for their survival.
